THE FILMS FIRST SEQUENCE : OF ECLIPSES AND BEAUTIFUL TRANSITIONS..
The
film opens to a dark scene.. the queen, ill and bedridden …. murmurs
the name of the royal guard.. Eklavya.. as Ekalavya himself is introduced
in his room..
The inauspicious time of the lunar eclipse was used to suggest the ominous
events about to happen and also act as a link between the happenings in
the queen’s and Eklavya’s room (and effectively between the
queen and Eklavya),..it was symbolic in that the fort itself would be
going thru a dark phase from this time on….. These transitions add
to the visual texture of the sequence while indicating passage of time
as well. They were designed to blend into the sequences as well as possible
so as to become a part of the unfolding of the story rather than a gimmick.
Transitions are all about timing. So care had to be taken that they were
interwoven at the correct pace for the sequence.
