Mood Boards - And how they worked within the unit

By the time we went for the shoot, we had all the key sequences filled in to the last detail. Which is not to say they were shot exactly as drawn, but there was a great clarity of intent. A storyboard is always only a rough version of the movie. When the actors come in full costume on the sets a different kind of magic takes over but the explorations done before usually drive everybody forward.

Some storyboards can be called mood boards as they take up the key shots in a scene and define the dramatic tone and feel of the situation.

Following is a sequence of sketches that explore the mood of the scene. Followed by a still of Boman performing the scene.

One of the greatest compliments came from no less an actor than Boman Irani who confided that at the time of performing his rather difficult scene at the beginning of the film, the storyboards constantly played in his head. The feel of the scene and how his character was to be portrayed was perfectly defined to him.

Similar reactions from virtually all lead characters confirmed the validity of our work from an actor's point of view.
