Working Out Sequences
So when did the storyboarding begin?

As the script started tightening up we started to seriously flesh out each sequence as a set of storyboards.

Critically, storyboarding is an inexpensive and easy way of experimenting with all narrative possibilities. Entire sequences which had many months of scripting and boarding behind them were chucked out when they were found to be loosening the tight narrative pace that we wanted for the film.

The film was always meant to be around 90-100 mins. So there would be no superfluous or unnecessary activity. Storyboarding ensured that all possibilities were played out and a sequence's importance well worked way before going into the shoot.

In fact I was also co-ordinating with the set designers and all the other great artistic and design talents that worked on the project as the boards we created were a rough blue print for many departments to understand Vinod's vision .
