ORIGINSTell us about the origins of Ekalavya?
Vinod first told us about Yagna (as it was called then) when we were still working on Move 5. I remember he called in Raju ( Hirani) and several key production people and narrated the seed of the story. It was a powerful moment.. it was a very compelling drama, he decided to go ahead with this. Of course he thought it up with Amitabh Bachchan as this character. Mr.Bachchan was more than eager to do it and it was on!
Around late 2004 work on visualizing Yagna began in earnest as the outline structure of the film was in place. Parineeta was already deep in production and many more amazing talents wound up in Vinod's creative core group. Apart from Pradeepda, there was Shantanu Moitra the composer, the lyricist and dialogue writer Swanand Kirkire and the cinematographer Nataraja Subramaniam ( Parineeta, Black Friday).
