BLOOD IN THE ROYAL WATERS..

Vinod had always wanted blood at the end of the prologue…nice animated sequence and gory blood at the end of it!! It was quite a puzzle to do it in a meaningful, aesthetic and yet shocking manner. Many ideas were worked out but they had to transit into the first shot which was at that point the moon undergoing an eclipse… nothing seemed to work for the longest time.

Then one day Vinod had an idea and he got rid of that first shot and went straight to the next shot which was the reflection of the fort in the waters of the royal pool… This was the breakthrough.. as the windows of the palace were red!! The sequence thus worked out was.. Ekalavya would cut his thumb in the swoosh closeup.. the blood would spatter over the waters in which we also put the moon and slowly the blood would settle down to the image of the palace with its ominous red curtains signaling that all was not well in the state of Devigarh, over the v/o of the young prince protesting that what Ekalavya did was wrong..

One of the most satisfying transitions in the film… the waters and the blood splatters in the initial part of the shot were generated and blended in with the live shot of the agitated fort reflection.. the moon reflection was also generated.. so we got the best of all the worlds..
Moreover this eventually tied up with the end of the film where during the end credits, the background transforms in textures till it finally becomes a pool of water with the clear moon reflected in it.. the murky waters have cleared and peace reigns.
