The ANIMATION OF EKALAVYA
The whole story was told thru transitions and subtle movements..Vinod was doubly sure after the test that the only character animation in the sequence would be the dramatic climax where Ekalavya would cut off his thumb..
The way that we broke up the moment was where the v/o says “ usne hanste hanste apna angootha kaat kar guru ke charanon pe rakh diya” , Ekalavya would raise up his thumb and then the knife to cut and we would fade out without seeing anything more…
When the princess wonders that just like the dog earlier, Ekalavya might have managed the feat bloodlessly without pain , the narrator continues…” Nahin Nandini, bahut dard hua, bahut khoon tapka…” where we would fade into the same of image of Ekalavya poised to cut off his thumb, he would look at the guru one final time full of acceptance and cheer and then dramatically cut off his thumb.. where we would have a flashcut.
However Vinod wanted blood ….
